Why do I need a Web site?

There are several reasons. Below you will find a list of reasons why someone may need a Web site.

  • to generate awareness of your business
  • to promote/advertise your services or products,
  • to provide customer services and support,
  • to keep your customer informed
  • to improve competitive advantage

In the past, when customers were looking for a product or service, their easiest option would be to pull out the Yellow Pages and search for a store or company in their area that provided the product or service they were looking for. Sometimes this supplied a name and phone number, and sometimes an address. On more rare occasions this supplied a picture advertisement with a list of services or products.

With today’s Internet, customer will go to there favorite search engine and search for the product or service they are in need of and the search will present them with a list of businesses with links to their Web sites. Those Web sites will contain all the same basic information you would fine in the Yellow Pages and much, much more such as maps, product pictures, price lists, information about the business etc.... Some will even allow customer to order products and services directly from there Web site -- all without ever having to leave the house or office and with more and more people using the internet as their main method of searching and obtaining goods and services this is a potential market that can't afford to ignore.

You’re still not sold. Ok. Perhaps you have a "service" that's already doing well and you're wondering why you should burden yourself with the added expense of a Web site. Simply put, the World Wide Web is the first places your customers will look to go to find information. Even if your best business comes by word-of-mouth, your potential customers may want to check out what you are offering. This in the Web world is referred to as a "corporate presence." A well-designed, professional looking web site can give you added visibility and credibility. Especially if you’re providing a public service and your goal is to get information to a large number of people almost instantaneously.

Furthermore, a Web site will promote your business 24 hours every day, seven days each week, and to the whole world. But most importantly, nothing else offers this flexibility and is recognized as one of the most cost effective forms of advertising available.

Now, why wouldn't you want a website?

As someone once said of the web

"There's no point in ignoring it, it's as inevitable as the telephone".
